Public Statement of the University of Maine School of Law on the Atlanta Murders

Today, President Biden has ordered U.S. flags to be lowered to half-staff in respect for victims of recent anti-Asian violence, murders, and hatred.  We have all seen the recent racist acts of violence and harassment against Asian American communities across the country, including right here in Maine. The University of Maine School of Law condemns these vicious acts of hate and recognizes that members of our community are feeling vulnerable. As we acknowledged in the aftermath of George Floyd’s death less than a year ago, words seem particularly useless at times like this, but it is action that is needed now.

We must all stand together to build an anti-racist community.

For any Maine Law students seeking support, please reach out to the Dean of Students, Sherry Niang. You can find further information on how to find support, or communicate complaints or concerns in the My Law Portal. We send our deepest sympathies to those impacted by these acts of hatred and violence.
