Applications open for Maine Law’s 2026 Loan Repayment Assistance Program (LRAP)

Maine Law is once again accepting applications for its Loan Repayment Assistance Program (LRAP), an initiative designed to support graduates pursuing careers in public interest law. Applications for the 2026 cycle are open through June 15, 2026.

The program helps recent Maine Law graduates manage the financial burden of educational debt while working in law-related public interest positions. Funded through an endowment established by alumni and friends of the law school, along with ongoing community support and student fundraising efforts, the program reflects Maine Law’s longstanding commitment to access to justice and public service.

Eligible applicants must have graduated from Maine Law within the past five years and be employed full time in qualifying public interest work earning $80,000 or less. Positions with legal services organizations, nonprofit groups, and government agencies may qualify. Award amounts generally range from $2,500 to $5,000, depending on available funding and the number of applicants.

Recipients receive assistance in the form of loans that may be forgiven if they remain in qualifying public interest employment for at least one year and meet all program requirements.

Maine Law’s LRAP is intended to encourage graduates to pursue meaningful legal careers serving communities in need, while helping make public interest work more financially sustainable for new attorneys.
