2020 Information Privacy Summer Institute
The COVID-19 pandemic has forced governments and private institutions to collect personal data in unprecedented ways, while increased use of new technologies (like teleconference platforms) have illustrated the importance of consumer privacy to a company’s brand. These practices have raised new legal issues for in-house and outside privacy counsel. The 2020 Summer Institute will take a multi-faceted approach to examine the multitude of privacy issues that have arisen as a result of this pandemic.
Courses in the 2020 Information Privacy Summer Institute are:
- Global Privacy Law – Professor Gabe Maldoff
12 ME CLE Credits/2 Academic Credits
May 26-29, 2020 - Privacy and Data Security from the Consumer’s Point of View – Professor Ryan Kriger
6 ME CLE Credits/1 Academic Credit
June 1-2, 2020 - Healthcare Privacy and Security – Professor Kirk Nahra
6 ME CLE Credits/1 Academic Credit
June 2-4, 2020 - Privacy and Security Implications of Data Sharing – Professor Rita Heimes

Privacy in Practice Conference
The Center for Law + Innovation at the University of Maine School of Law is pleased to partner with Pierce Atwood, the University of Maine Graduate and Professional Center, and the IAPP to offer a one day 6.5 ME CLE credit conference, virtually via Zoom, as part of the 2020 Summer Institute.
Dr. Nadia Rosenthal, Scientific Director at The Jackson Laboratory, will deliver the keynote address on “The Social, Economic, Ethical and Privacy Implications of Artificial Intelligence in Human Genomics.” Portland, Maine, home to the recently announced Roux Institute of Northeastern University, is about to become a center of global excellence in Artificial Intelligence research and education. This will undoubtedly spawn new economic opportunities for the business community and additional work for lawyers in the region. The Conference will also feature speakers from MetLife, Accenture, the IAPP, and leading law firms to discuss ways in which AI technologies are being used in different industries and the ethical and data protection issues that arise from the use of these technologies.
The Conference is open to the public, and the cost to attend is $295. To register and view the agenda, please visit: mainelawcommunity.org/2020-privacy-practice.
