Maine Law’s flex time option allows students whose obligations prevent them from studying full-time to enroll in a reduced course load. All classes for flex time students are held in person at our campus in Portland, Maine. Flex time students take courses alongside their full time peers and classes are scheduled during the weekday.

Flex time students typically complete their degree in four years, but have up to seven years to finish their studies.

Flex time students are required to take a minimum of eight credit hours per semester from the 1L curriculum during their first year of study, including Civil Procedure and Legal Research, Analysis, & Communication I and II. Students complete the rest of the 1L curriculum during their second year at Maine Law.

1L courses: flex students are enrolled in courses by the registrar, typically they are expected to be on campus three days a week.

Upper level courses: flex students select their schedule based on course availability and their personal schedules.

All flex time students must be accepted into the J.D. program through the regular admissions process. For additional information, please contact the Office of Admissions at 207.780.4341 or lawadmissions@maine.edu.
