The University of Maine School of Law is committed to providing equal access for all individuals, including persons seeking academic accommodations, persons with disabilities, and persons experiencing pregnancy, parenting or loss. Our goal is to enable students, staff, applicants, and the public to participate in all aspects of academic, employment, cultural, and recreational life of Maine Law.
Accommodation Requests
Current and prospective Maine Law students can find accommodation information via the MyLaw portal and are also welcome to contact the Office of Student Affairs to discuss academic accommodation options.
Current and prospective Maine Law employees please contact the University of Maine System ADA Coordinator to discuss employment-related accommodations. You may also review the University of Maine System Procedure for Accommodating Individuals with Disabilities.
Visitors and non-students may request an accommodation by completing and submitting the Maine Law Accommodation Request Form. We will make every effort to evaluate and address your request promptly. For accommodations at Maine Law events two weeks advance notice is preferred, but not required.
Pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Maine Human Rights Act, and University of Maine System policy, qualified people are entitled to equal access and reasonable accommodations to Maine Law programs, jobs, services, and activities unless accommodation would pose an undue burden or hardship.
Service Animals
Service animals are permitted in any Maine Law setting that is open to the public. Service animals are defined by the ADA as dogs that are individually trained to do work or perform tasks for people with disabilities. The tasks performed by the dog must be directly related to the person’s disability. Dogs whose sole function is to provide comfort or emotional support do not qualify as service animals under the ADA.
Please refer to the Guidelines Regarding Services Animals for applicable University of Maine System policy information. The Department of Justice provides additional clarification and answers to FAQs about service animals and the ADA, as well.
Non-discrimination Notice
