Sherry Abbott Niang

Sherry is a 2004 graduate of the University of Maine School of Law where she served as a legal writing teaching assistant and an articles editor for the Maine Law Review. She joined Maine Law in 2007 as the Law School’s dean of students. In this new role, she leads the Law School’s reporting to the American Bar Association and compliance with ABA Standards, oversees evaluation of institutional and program learning outcomes, and helps with the development of academic and other institutional policies. 

Sherry is a licensed member of the Maine Bar.  She serves on several Law School committees including the Assessment Committee, Curriculum Committee, and the University of Maine System’s Academic Assessment Committee. She is also a member of the National Association of Law Student Affairs Professionals (NALSAP). Prior to joining Maine Law, Sherry clerked for the Hon. Robert W. Clifford of the Maine Supreme Judicial Court and practiced law at a major Portland law firm. She has a master’s in history and worked in higher education before attending law school.
