Maura J. Kelly joined Maine Law in July 2025 as the Director of Career Development. Immediately prior to coming to Maine Law, Maura worked as a staff attorney in the Farmworker Unit at Pine Tree Legal Assistance (PTLA) where she met many amazing Maine Law graduates who inspired her to pursue this position and to return to full-time law student career advising.
For many years Maura advised law students at Boston area law schools, including leading the offices at Northeastern and Boston University School of Law. As an attorney she worked in a wide variety of settings and roles. As the Senior Manager for Access to Justice for the Massachusetts Trial Court Maura worked on myriad projects to make the courts more accessible to the public such areas as language access, simplifying court forms and processes, ensuring full access to people with disabilities. Through the MA Access to Justice Commission she participated in the Justice For All Project’s Housing Stability working group as well as the Access to Attorneys committee. Earlier in her legal career Maura represented students in a variety of legal matters, primarily in special education cases working for legal aid programs. Through her work in legal aid Maura also conducted trainings throughout the country for parents, attorneys and community members on privacy rights, education reform, Title I, disability rights, and school discipline.
Additionally, Maura served as the General Counsel for a Boston-area university, a law clerk and a legal research and writing instructor. She explored private practice briefly, first working in the higher education practice of a large law firm and then representing students with disabilities at a small law firm.
