Lua Kamál Yuille joins the University of Maine School of Law as a Visiting Professor, bringing a dynamic interdisciplinary perspective to the Maine Law community. Professor Yuille is recognized for her innovative scholarship at the intersection of property law, business law, heterodox economics, and critical pedagogy, with a particular focus on how law shapes group identity and drives social change.
Currently, Professor Yuille serves as Professor of Law and Business and Associate Dean for Research and Interdisciplinary Education at Northeastern University School of Law and the D’Amore-McKim School of Business. Her career reflects a deep commitment to justice-oriented legal education and public service. Yuille’s professional experience spans federal judicial clerkship, socio-economic development law in Latin America, Wall Street corporate transactions, public school teaching, and pro bono immigration litigation.
Professor Yuille began her academic career as a visiting professor at the University of Oregon School of Law and as a William Hastie Fellow at the University of Wisconsin Law School. She later joined the University of Kansas, where she contributed to both the law faculty and the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies. Her dedication to engaged scholarship and teaching excellence has been recognized by the Society of American Law Teachers, which awarded her the Junior Faculty Teaching Award in 2017.
Yuille holds a J.D. from Columbia University School of Law and a B.A. from The Johns Hopkins University. She has also pursued advanced studies at the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies. Fluent in Spanish and Italian, Professor Yuille credits her global service as a praxivist—integrating theory and practice—as her most enduring education.
