Erin Cusenbary joined Maine Law in 2025 as a professor of practice and the founding Legal Director of the Business & Law Clinic, a first-of-its-kind collaboration between Maine Law and the University of Maine Graduate School of Business. Her focus, both within the Business & Law Clinic and in the larger law school environment, is bridging the gap between doctrinal courses and real transactional practice. In the Business & Law Clinic, Professor Cusenbary takes a client-focused, practical approach to helping student attorneys understand and succeed in a corporate legal environment.
Professor Cusenbary brings years of experience in corporate private practice, most recently with Latham & Watkins LLP in its Austin, Texas office, where she advised a range of clients on secured financing transactions, with a particular focus on borrowers in the life sciences and technology industries. During her time at Latham, she was recognized by the firm for outstanding training and mentorship to young associates, and she served as the Austin liaison to the firm-wide Women Lawyers Group.
During her time in Texas, Professor Cusenbary consistently mentored and advised law students, and she maintains an open-door policy to any Maine Law students seeking advice on how to make a career in transactional law.
