Circulation & Interlibrary Loan

The Circulation Desk is staffed primary by students during all hours the library is open. Patrons may check out any items that circulate with a library card. Please check out and return all materials at the desk.

Circulation Policy

The Interlibrary Loan Department provides access to materials not available in the University of Maine System libraries. This service is available to University of Maine School of Law faculty, students, staff and attorneys in New England.

The Law Library does not charge a fee for this service to Law faculty, staff or students. However, lending libraries may charge fees. The Law Library will pay up to $15.00 per request. Anything more than $15.00 must be covered by the user. Attorneys are charged a fee to cover costs. View current fee schedule.

Important Information

All forms must be completely filled out
All fax/e-mail requests must contain the following information:  name, address, telephone number and a complete citation:
  • Books: Author/Editor, Title, Year of Publication, Publisher (if available)
  • Journal Articles: Journal Title, Volume Number, Page Number(s), Year of Publication, Author and Title of Article

Notification of Arrival

Law School Faculty and Staff:  Materials will be placed in your Law School mailbox.

Law School Students:
By e-mail. Materials may be picked up behind the Circulation Desk (3rd floor).
Attorney Service: 
Arrangements must be made with the Interlibrary Loan Office. Please call (207) 780-4818.

*** Interlibrary Loan may take a few days or several weeks depending upon the nature of the material and the location of the lending library. Please plan accordingly.
