The award, named after former Dean L. Kinvin Wroth, honors a Maine Law graduate who has achieved distinction in his or her career by contributing as a leader, locally, nationally or globally, and who has helped advance his or her alma mater.
The Hon. Michael A. Fagone is a U.S. Bankruptcy Judge for the District of Maine in Bangor. He was appointed to the bankruptcy bench in April 2015. Previously, he was a member of Bernstein Shur’s Business Restructuring and Insolvency Practice Group in Portland, where he specialized in bankruptcy and insolvency law. While practicing law, Judge Fagone was recognized in The Best Lawyers in America and by Chambers USA as one of the top bankruptcy lawyers in Maine.
Judge Fagone currently serves on the American Bankruptcy Institute’s Board of Directors, and is a volunteer with the ABI’s financial literacy program, Credit Abuse Resistance Education (or CARE), teaching students about the responsible use of credit and the dangers of credit abuse. He has also volunteered for several years, as a coach and an evaluator, for Maine Law’s teams in the Conrad B. Duberstein Moot Court Competition.
The L. Kinvin Wroth Award is presented annually at the Maine Law graduation ceremony, which is scheduled to be held this year at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 20, at Merrill Auditorium in Portland. The Law School will award eighty-three J.D. degrees and five LL.M. degrees. Family and friends are welcome to attend the ceremony, and tickets are not required.
