Dr. Laura Underkuffler joins Maine Law as visiting scholar

PORTLAND, Maine – Dr. Laura Underkuffler, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and J. DuPratt White Professor of Law at Cornell Law School, will be a visiting scholar at Maine Law in the Fall semester this year.
Dr. Underkuffler is recognized and respected internationally for her contributions to the fields of property theory, constitutional law, and the role of decision making in law.
Prior to joining the Cornell Law School faculty in 2009, Dr. Underkuffler was Arthur Larson Distinguished Professor at Duke Law School. She has also taught as a visiting professor at Harvard, University of Pennsylvania, Georgetown Law School, and at the University of Maine School of Law.
She has been involved in international projects concerning property rights and regime change, and the problem of corruption and democratic governance. Dr. Underkuffler has served as a fellow at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, as special counsel in the U.S. Senate, as a private practitioner in Minnesota, and as law clerk for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. She earned her B.A. from Carleton College, her J.D. from William Mitchell College of Law, and her LL.M. and J.S.D from Yale Law School.
