Sept. 26, 2012

PORTLAND, Maine

Meghan Higgins, a 2012 graduate of the University of Maine School of Law, has received the Kenneth R. Clegg Award for Excellence, for achieving the highest combined score on the Maine Bar Examination.

The award, presented by the Maine Board of Bar Examiners, honors the memory of Kenneth R. Clegg, who served on the board from 1989 to 2002, and was its first treasurer.

Higgins, a native of Eddington, was recently hired by the state of Maine as an Assistant Attorney General in the Child Protection Division. She graduated from John Bapst Memorial High School in 2005, and Boston College in 2009, with degrees in linguistics and contemporary ethics. Higgins was the 2010 Linda Smith Dyer Law Fellow at Maine Women’s Policy Center.

During her time at Maine Law, Higgins served as a student-attorney at the Cumberland Legal Aid Clinic. In the spring of 2012, she won a Law Student Ethics Award from the Northeast Chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel. Higgins and award recipients from 10 other law schools in New England were honored April 5 at the Union Club of Boston. The Law Student Ethics Awards honor outstanding ethics in a clinical program.
