Research Interests

Legal Research & Writing

Professor Angie Arey directs and teaches in the First-Year Legal Writing Program, runs a scholarly writing workshop for upper level students, and coordinates the Moot Court Program. She is the curriculum director for the PreLaw Undergraduate Scholars Program, a three-week program designed to encourage diversity in the legal profession. Professor Arey received the University of Southern Maine’s 2015-2016 Faculty Senate Award for Excellence in Teaching and the Women’s Law Association 2016 Award for Outstanding Alumna.

Professor Arey has her own consulting business, providing legal research and writing services to local attorneys. Along with Maine Law Professor Emerita Nancy Wanderer, she wrote a textbook on Legal Research, Analysis, and Writing.

A Maine native, Professor Arey graduated summa cum laude from the University of Maine School of Law in 2005. In law school, she was editor-in-chief of the Ocean and Coastal Law Journal and co-chair of the Environmental Law Society. She served as a law clerk for the Maine Supreme Judicial Court and worked in private practice before returning to Maine Law as a faculty member.
