Access Student Account

Your academic and course information is available online through the Maine Street web portal, http://mainestreet.maine.edu.

Important Notice from the USM Information Reporting Office

On July 31, 2006, the University of Maine System implemented a new database for student data. What does this mean? You can no longer update your addresses, phone number, email, or emergency contacts in WebDSIS. All updates to this data must be done through "MaineStreet" via the "Visit MaineStreet" link in WebDSIS. Your bio-demo data is still viewable in WebDSIS but changes must be made through MaineStreet.

Changes can be made by using what is known as Student Self-Service to enter and update bio-demo data. Log on using your university email logon and password. If you have problems logging into Maine Street, see the "My UMS Account" information page. If you are still having trouble, contact the IT User Services Help Desk at (207) 780-4029.

As with any new system, there is data conversion involved. At this time, we ask that you verify your bio-demo data that was converted from the old ISIS system into the new PeopleSoft system. Data fields to verify are: names, addresses, phone, emergency contacts, date of birth, gender, FERPA (opting-out of the Directory Information) and ethnicity. Please be aware that PeopleSoft uses upper and lower case characters in its fields. Note any information that is incorrect.

Online Help is Available

To make any necessary corrections, please view the online User Guides and/or iDemos before changing any data. The User Guides and iDemos walk you through the process of entering or changing information that is currently in MaineStreet. Primary Name and National ID changes continue to be handled as they are today by submitting the changes to the Registrar's Office in writing. If you need assistance in updating or correcting information in your student record call 780-5106 or 780-5541.

The Student Survival Guide allows you to determine what information (changes) can be found (made) where (WebDSIS verses MaineStreet).

Additional help for current students and applicants is available on the UMS web site.

As a reminder, Beginning Fall 2006, the University of Southern Maine has established email as an official and primary means of communication to all of its students, accepted and/or enrolled. Official University assigned email accounts are created for all accepted and/or enrolled students usually in the form of "FirstName.LastName" @ maine.edu. Official University information will be sent to your University assigned email address. This address is in PeopleSoft as your "Business" email address. Be aware that all official university email will be sent to your Business email address regardless of which "Preferred" box is checked. The "Preferred" box attached to this field is irrelevant (ignored) and will not be used. Other email addresses may be added but they will not be used. Students should activate their assigned email account at https://mail.maine.edu. The complete Email Communication Policy can be found on-line at http://usm.maine.edu/doit.

And finally, over the next few years, we will roll out the remaining 5 modules of PeopleSoft's Campus Solutions component (Student Records, Student Financials, Financial Aid, Academic Advisement, and Contributor Relations). Please stay posted as we work through the future challenges of change.

Sincerely,
