Student Bar Association

Welcome to the SBA homepage!

My name is Kate Shorr and I am the current President of the Student Bar Association here at Maine Law. Each student at Maine Law is a member of the Student Bar Association (SBA), which is an affiliate of the Law Student Division of the American Bar Association.

The SBA Board strives to promote and fund both educational and social activities among the students, with the goal of providing free events that help make law school less stressful and more fun!

The SBA functions as the umbrella organization for all other student organizations here at Maine Law, providing funding through the Student Activity Fee, and coordinating the activities of all student organizations. Additionally, the SBA President serves as the liaison between the students, the faculty, the administration, and the alumni association. Because the SBA is funded by students, and we are the voice of the student, our goal is simple: to use those funds to make the law school experience more enjoyable and fulfilling.

In addition to hosting speakers, panels, free lunches, and a number of other small events throughout the year, the SBA hosts many annual events for students, including:

  • the mentor-mentee program for all incoming 1L students
  • the fall golf tournament
  • the faculty-staff-student ice-cream social
  • the winter “1L skits” where students present a light-hearted spoof of faculty, administration, and each other.
  • the spring Barrister’s Ball, otherwise known as “Law School Prom.”
  • the “Maine Law at the Red Sox” event at Fenway

The SBA is off to a great start this year, with many events planned throughout the semester. I wish everyone a great fall semester, and encourage you to contact me with any questions, concerns or
suggestions.

Here’s to another great year at Maine Law!
