Career Services: Reciprocity Policy
It is our policy to assist students and graduates of ABA accredited law schools who are relocating to Maine and seeking legal employment provided that their law schools will likewise assist our students and graduates.
We ask that permission for reciprocity be secured in advance by a letter from the appropriate Placement or Career Services Director. The student or graduate should then contact our office to schedule his or her visit. Reciprocity will be granted for a period of six months, and we ask that the individual sign the Reciprocity Notebook when visiting our school. Extensions of the six month period will require another letter from the Career Services office of the student’s or graduate’s own law school.
Reciprocal services include the use of the Career Services Office for reviewing job postings, library materials, employer files, and our various other resources but do not include access to on-campus interview listings or participation in on-campus interviews.
An e-mail subscription to The Maine Connection, our graduate job bulletin, is available upon request for the six-month duration of the Reciprocity period only if access to Brigham Young University’s Intercollegiate Job Bank is not available directly through the Career Services office of the student or graduate’s law school.
Counseling services on regional employment information may be available to the student or graduate by appointment, provided in-kind services from the reciprocating law school are offered and subject to staff availability. If such services are available, the student or graduate should bring a copy of his or her résumé to the scheduled appointment.
Reciprocity will not be granted during the autumn recruitment season, which runs from August 1 to November 15. During the spring recruitment season, which runs from January 15 to April 15, reciprocity will be limited to subscriptions to The Maine Connection (staff will not be available).
