Laura Underkuffler often returns to the University of Maine School of Law as a Visiting Professor. The Arthur Larson Distinguished Professor at Duke Law School, Dr. Underkuffler has published widely in the United States and abroad in the fields of property theory, constitutional law and the role of moral decision making in law. She has been involved in international projects concerning property rights and regime change, and the problem of corruption and democratic governance.

Dr. Underkuffler has served as a fellow at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, as special counsel in the U.S. Senate and as a private practitioner in Minnesota. She has taught previously as a visiting professor at Harvard, University of Pennsylvania and Georgetown Law School as well as Maine Law. She teaches courses in property law and property theory.
