LL.M. Program Admission Standards

  1. LL.M. degree candidates must have completed a law degree at an ABA accredited law school in the United States or earned the equivalent degree at a duly-accredited foreign university.

  2. All candidates for whom English is not their primary language must demonstrate sufficient English proficiency in one of the following ways:

    a. Submission of adequate test scores from a standardized English proficiency exam, including:
    i. TOEFL score of 550 or above (paper), 79 or above (internet based), or 213 or above (computer based); or
    ii. IELTS score of 6.5 or higher.

    b. Submission of a writing sample for review by the LL.M. Director and/or LL.M. Admissions Committee, as well as completion of a telephone/videoconference interview with the LL.M. Program Director or other LL.M. Admissions Committee member. (Please note that this option is available only under exceptional circumstances and on a case-by-case basis).

  3. Students whose scores are not at the required level may be required to enroll in intensive English language courses in addition to LL.M. classes.

  4. The LL.M. academic program requires students to complete twenty-four (24) credits. Degree candidates may elect to complete the degree in up to eighteen months.

  5. Degree candidates are required to be in residence for two semesters except in cases of exceptional circumstances.
